Komodo National Park
Manta Trust Expedition - Komodo National Park
Mehr erfahren
MANDATORY Experience Requirements: PADI Advanced Open Water, or equivalent certification, and a minimum of 50 logged dives. It is also strongly recommended that divers have previous experience and are comfortable diving in strong currents.
The diversity of marine life in Komodo National Park is so unique that the park became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991, and is considered one of the seven nature wonders of the world! The combination of marine and land wildlife, reef and pelagic creatures, invertebrates and vertebrates, shallow reefs, drop-offs and drift dives, produces exceptional diving, as expected of a key site within the Coral Triangle - the epicentre for the planet’s marine biodiversity.
While on board we expect to visit multiple, globally-renowned manta ray sites within the marine park both in the north and south of Komodo and visit the famous manta cleaning stations of Karang Makassar and Manta Alley, where mantas often aggregate in large numbers to socialise and mate during this season!
The itinerary will vary depending on manta sightings and will be aimed at maximising our encounters with these ocean giants. With one of the largest populations of reef manta rays in the world, resident year-round, Komodo National Park is among the best destinations to encounter these inquisitive species. It also offers a chance to encounter the elegant black morph reef mantas that are typical of this region’s population!

Wakatobi Islands: The reefs surrounding Wangi-Wangi Island and Tomia Island are among the most renowned in Southeast Sulawesi. Protected within Wakatobi National Park, dives feature vibrant coral formations, reef slopes and walls supporting abundant reef fish life.
Buton Island: West of the Wakatobi Islands, diving continues around the islands and reefs surrounding Buton Island, including areas near Pasarwajo and Siompu Island. These reefs are far less visited than those within Wakatobi National Park, and dives vary between coral slopes, reef walls and fringing reefs where schooling fish gather, and oceanic currents occasionally bring pelagic visitors.
We typically offer up to 4 dives each day: 3 day dives and a fourth sunset or night dive scheduled as follows:

Experience Requirements: Advanced Open Water with minimum 50 logged dives
We journey through the Flores Sea between Kalabahi and Maumere visiting a variety of dive sites along the way including world famous muck sites and reefs of the Pantar Strait and the Alor Strait between Lembata and Flores Islands. Roughly 50km north of Lembata is Komba Island, also known as Batu Tara which is a small, active volcano with stunning underwater topography.
Alor is well known for its black, volcanic sand muck diving and macro biodiversity, while the Pantar Strait boasts healthy, colourful coral reefs, pinnacles and walls with sharks, turtles and rays as well as the possibility of a chance encounter with sunfish (aka mola mola) or even spotting orcas (killer whales). Maumere located on the north coast of Flores is an area that is famous for its diversity and is best known for its muck dives, walls and drop-offs. Maumere once held the title of most diverse spot on earth - a title currently held by Raja Ampat. Its diversity has also made Maumere a popular area of study for marine scientists over the years.
