Central & South Atolls is a 10-night Maldives route mixing fast channel dives and colorful pinnacles across South Male, Vaavu and Meemu. Depending on the trip, the boat may also pass South Ari for possible manta rays and whale sharks (conditions dependent, not guaranteed).
Expect current-driven kandus (channels), thila drifts and occasional calmer reefs. Sites are chosen daily to match tides, current and weather, aiming for the best dives while keeping safety first.
HIGHLIGHTS
South Male Atoll: Cocoa Kandu and Kandhooma Thila combine blue-water scanning for grey reef sharks with fish-packed thila drifts. Guraidhoo Kandu is a deeper, more technical channel where sharks and eagle rays may patrol the ledge.
Vaavu Atoll: Miyaru Kandu is a classic channel crossing with shark activity and resident eagle rays. Alimatha House Reef is famous for night dives with blacktips, stingrays and tawny nurse sharks (when conditions allow). Golden Wall delivers a striking vertical wall coated in yellow soft corals, best when the current is right.
Meemu Atoll: Muli Corner and Muli Kandu offer very fishy drifts with jacks, barracudas, snappers, turtles and occasional mantas on outgoing currents. Vanhuravalhi Kandu can be demanding, with deep overhangs and blue-water lookouts for grey reef and silvertip sharks. On selected shallow sites such as Kurali Kandu, mantas may gather over sand when conditions are favourable. Hakura Thila adds a long pinnacle with light effects and macro potential.

THE ATOLLS, DIVE MOOD BY DIVE MOOD
North Male Atoll
A dynamic start with colorful reef walls, easy check dives and the first shark silhouettes in the blue. Great for settling in, tuning buoyancy and getting used to Maldivian currents.
Lhaviyani Atoll: Calmer coral gardens and open channels where anthias clouds, parrotfish and morays fill the frame. With the right current, eagle rays or grey reef sharks can appear from the deep.
Noonu Atoll: More exposed drop-offs and longer drifts, often with superb visibility. Expect big schools (jacks, snappers) and occasional large visitors cruising past the reef edge.
Shaviyani Atoll: An off-the-radar atoll that rewards patient divers: intricate reef structure, great small-life opportunities and the kind of quiet that makes manta cleaning stations feel almost unreal.
Raa Atoll: Where variety peaks: fast action in the channels, then slow macro sessions on protected slopes. One dive can be all barracudas and jacks, the next is nudibranchs, leaf fish and octopus in the coral.
Baa Atoll (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve): The grand finale: plankton-rich water, dense reef life and world-class manta encounters at cleaning stations (season dependent). Baa brings the emotional, close-up moments that stay with you long after the trip.
DIVING STYLE: Expect a mix of channel crossings, drift dives along walls, pinnacles/thilas and sheltered reef cruises. Currents are part of the experience; your guides adapt the plan to conditions and the group level.
SAFETY FIRST: All dives are supervised by qualified instructors (CMAS or PADI). Before each dive, the team briefs the site, current, wildlife behavior and safety procedures. The Senior Instructor may require in-water supervision or limit diving for any guest whose experience is not sufficient for local conditions.

WHEN IT SHINES
Late summer is traditionally the prime window in the north: monsoon-driven currents can create plankton blooms that attract mantas to feeding and cleaning areas. Conditions vary day to day, so the route stays flexible to follow the best water and visibility.
KEY AREAS & SIGNATURE MOMENTS
• Baa Atoll — Hanifaru Bay & surrounding reefs: When conditions align, Hanifaru becomes a natural amphitheatre for manta feeding behaviour. Dives and/or snorkeling sessions are planned in the area, depending on local rules and sea state, with a focus on respectful encounters.
• Raa Atoll — remote walls & cleaning stations: Less visited and farther from Malé, Raa offers dramatic drop-offs, colourful coral structures and stations where mantas can circle in slow spirals. Whale sharks are possible depending on the season, alongside reef sharks and dense schools of fish.
